Wagga’s Gerard Okerenyang is officially in the top eight primary school shot-putters in the country after reaching the final at the national carnival in Sydney.

Okerenyang’s best throw of 11.98m was 37cm short of his effort at state but the 12-year old Lutheran primary student was pleased to have made the final.

His brother Godfrey heads to Canberra this weekend for the Australian all schools championships after overcoming a hip injury.
