The next phase of the Wagga Rural Referral Hospital redevelopment will include the three bed, 10 chair lounge, including bariatric chairs catering for patients weighing up to 300kg.
The transit lounge is a waiting area for patients who are ready to be discharged from hospital or for patients who are visiting from another nearby hospital.
Importantly, it frees up acute beds for patients who need admission to hospital.
The previous transit lounge operated in a demountable.
Hospital staff moved in earlier this month into the refurbished operating theatre block with minimal disruption.
The demolition of the old Wagga Base Hospital is on track for the end of the year.
