Riding for the Disabled Association Wagga (RDA) rider Michael Payne took out champion rider in the novice trot section of the competition beating his two team members, Henry McClintock who placed second and Zahra Safour who came third.
The three all competed against each other in the novice trot section.
Both Henry and Zahra has competed in Sydney before but for Michael it was the first year. His strong result will see him move up to the canter section at next year’s show.
Coach Darren Judd was pleased with the strong results the riders achieved.
“They look forward to the show and they put in a lot of hard work to get there,” he said.
The three riders have been training twice a week since the start of the year for the show.
“They get a bit nervous (at Sydney) but that’s why we train, to help with that,” Mr Judd said.
The riders had to compete at the regional competition against other RDA centres from the area to qualify for Sydney where they competed against centres from across the state.
