After catching the bunny last time out cost Slightly Sweet a likely victory she has a chance to prove her ability at Wagga on Friday.
The technical glitch saw the race abandoned and left the Rod Oakman-trained bitch’s fate in the luck of the draw for the RSM Accountants final (400m).
However her number was drawn out and she’s secured box three for Friday’s final.
Oakman thought she deserved to take her place in the $1000 to the winner race.
“It was poetic justice as she was going to win the heat,” Oakman said.
“She was just about to run away from them when she caught the hare up the backstraight.”
After starting her career with Luke Azzopardi, Slightly Sweet has found a new home with the San Isidore trainer.
Oakman is confident of his chances.
“I think she will be very hard to beat,” he said.
The Wagga Greyhound Club is providing free entry for the New Years Day meet with the first race at 5.58pm.
