
A person has died and at least five others have been injured in a shocking crash between three vehicles on the Newell Highway near West Wyalong.
Emergency services were called to the accident shortly before 4pm on Tuesday, which occurred about five kilometres north-east of the town.
The highway is closed in both directions, and is expected to be closed for a number of hours.
Police are investigating the incident.
It is the first fatal accident in the region since the police launched Operation Arrive Alive on December 18.
Southbound traffic is being diverted via Lachlan Valley Way through to Condobolin, then Condobolin Road to return to the Newell Highway.
Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Condobolin Road, then Lachlan Valley Way to return to the Newell Highway.
