Zoe Wilson could not wait a whole year for her first Christmas.
She surprised her family – mum Lauren, dad Chris and big brother Toby, 22 months, all from Cowra – by arriving eight weeks early.
“I went into Young Hospital at ten to seven and she was born at 10 past eight,” Mrs Wilson said.
“It was spontaneous and unexpected.”
Mrs Wilson started feeling pains in the afternoon at a family Christmas barbecue in Young.
Zoe was born eight weeks premature and weighed only 2.4 kilograms.
She was flown to the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children at the Canberra Hospital campus and was met there by her parents.
Mr and Mrs Wilson are able to nurse Zoe on some days and when they do, her entire hand wraps around the tip of her mother’s index finger.
Zoe remains in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Canberra, where they monitor babies with low birth weight, breathing difficulty, low blood sugar levels, infection, birth trauma and congenital abnormalities.
