WAGGA trainer Wayne Carroll will use a successful training formula to ensure Grand Allowance has the best possible chance of winning Thursday’s $25,000 Ted Ryder Cup (1600m).
Following strong runs over 2000 metres, Carroll drops the eight-year-old back to a mile knowing he’s now rock-hard fit to take on some of the best in southern NSW.
Grand Allowance was doing his best work late when fourth to Diamondsinthenight at Royal Randwick on December 5, and is primed for a bold showing at Wagga.
“He’s raced well at his two runs in Sydney. He was a little unlucky when getting a bit too far back last start and the favourite didn’t cart us into the race like we thought it would,” Carroll said.
“He’s picked up very well since and his work has been good, so there are no questions about his fitness and the step back to the mile should be ideal.
“He’s thrived in his racing this preparation and I think he’ll be a major player on Thursday.”
