ADELONG residents are on a collision course with Tumut Shire Council (TSC), angrily passing a motion of no confidence in the council.
More than 50 people attended a recent community meeting, where they didn’t rule out pushing for a change in councils over tough economic conditions in the town.
It comes amid a fraught time in local government, with Tumut slated to be merged with Tumbarumba.
“We have a concern that if we go with a merger under another council we may be forgotten even more than we are now," Adelong Progress Association spokeswoman Rose Likow told the Tumut and Adelong Times.
“Whatever happens we’re not accepting it anymore, we have enough support and strength in the town.
“We have a strong community and will voice our issues and be heard.”
TSC general manager Bob Stewart said the motion was unfair and pointed to recent council investment in the town.
Adelong is currently battling a weakening business environment, with the future of local shops one of the most hotly contested issues.
