A NEW online portal linking key players in Australian agriculture has been launched.
The initiative of the peak rural body, the National Farmers Federation (NFF), aims to increase engagement at all levels.
“NFF’s new online platform aims to bring farmers, agribusiness professionals and consumers together,” said NFF chief executive officer Simon Talbot.
“It will deliver the most up-to-date food and agribusiness news, weather and market information; integrate best management practice and provide member benefits,” he said.
“The NFF will implement extensive data security measures to provide protection of farmers’ data for their benefit, and the benefit of the wider industry.”
NSW Farmers President Derek Schoen said the digital plan builds on work pioneered by NSW Farmers.
“We have been working with Data61, CSIRO and other bodies for several years to help drive the uptake of digital innovation and advanced technology in agriculture,” he said.
Mr Schoen said AgInnovators is a digital communication and extension data channel.
Meanwhile, Vodafone director of strategy and corporate affairs Dan Lloyd said the company’s global expertise in communications technologies was being used to help the agricultural sector.
The project was launched by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
