A MAN at the centre of a furious police incident in east Wagga will stay behind bars following his first court mention on Tuesday.
John Barber, 26, of Mount Warrigal on the NSW south coast, faced eight serious charges in Wagga Local Court following his arrest on Monday afternoon.
His application for bail was refused by magistrate Erin Kennedy, who adjourned the case until February 10.
Barber has been charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of the owner, intimidation, driving in a dangerous manner, driving while disqualified, possessing a prohibited drug, entering enclosed land and aggravated break and enter.
Up to five police cars were seen chasing a stolen silver Commodore allegedly driven by Barber along the Sturt Highway late Monday morning.
The car was found abandoned in the driveway of a Forest Hill property.
It is alleged Barber forced his way into another Forest Hill home while residents were there and tried to change his appearance by way of stealing a high visibility work shirt from the house.
No one was hurt in the incident.
