More than 100 trucks and 170 trailers full of hay are ready to deliver hay to drought stricken farmers. There is just one problem, fuel money.
Organiser of the Burrumbuttock to Bourke Hay Runners, Brendan Farrell , has organised donated hay, trucks and drivers to head to Aramac in Queensland.
With 120 trucks lined up to go it will be the largest hay run in the world.
To date $62,000 has been raised but more is needed to get the trucks there and back.
“At this stage each truck will only get $500,” Mr Farrel said.
“That won’t even get them half way.”
For each truck to drive the 3,500 kilometre round trip they will require $2500 in fuel money.
Caltex has donated $10,000 but more is needed.
“We need to try and kick the tin and keep the dream alive,” Mr Farrell said.
“If people can donate $5, $10 or even 50 cents, it doesn’t matter it all helps.”
Businesses can sponsor a truck for $2,000 and have their banner displayed on the side.
“There is a lot of media attention on this so it would be worth having a banner,” Mr Farrell said.
The only large agricultural based business to buy a banner is Tapex, Australian manufacturers of baling twine for crop baling and packaging.
Banners have also been purchased by smaller businesses and schools.
Mr Farrel started orgaising the run earlier this year which was oringally headed for Windorah.
The location had to be changed to attract more drivers.
