HAVING a mentor with invaluable industry know-how provided the perfect platform for Peita Vincent to launch her first business.
Mrs Vincent had 20 years’ media and marketing experience, but her dream to open a communications agency was wedged in a distant pipeline without a background in business. That is, until she became part of Women in Business Wagga’s (WIBW) inaugural mentoring program at the start of the year.
Mrs Vincent was paired with industry expert Judy Galloway, who opened Sureway in Wagga in 1989. Mrs Galloway has since provided Mrs Vincent with “practical skills and the confidence” needed to develop Frank and Earnest, describing the experience as “career changing”.
She is imploring other local women to apply for the 2016 program, which could see a mentor provide them with one-on-one guidance throughout the year.
WIBW president Genevieve Flemming said employees who receive mentoring are promoted five times more often than people who don’t. Applications close this Friday. Visit www.womeninbusinesswagga.org.au.
