At a time of year when we are scrambling to feed our families while buy Christmas presents, residents have assisted to feed other families.
The Leader Food Appeal was held at the weekend and volunteers collected 50 boxes of food to be distributed by the Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul.
“From what I’ve seen, it’s certainly very generous,” Salvation Army minister Bindy Lupis said.
Donations include standard cans of fruit and vegetables and packets of dried food but some residents gifted chocolates, Christmas cake, candy canes and chips.
“I know that at this time we can all feel the pinch but it’s great we can all still come together,” Mrs Lupis said.
Items can still be donated at 188 Edward Street and donations will be packaged this week and delivered until Christmas.
