Every year, residents gather, candles in one hand and fold-up chairs in the other, to listen to the sounds of Christmas.
The Christmas Spectacular was launched today in preparation for another big event on December 13 at the Music Bowl.
“In more recent years, it’s become a community event,” Kurrajong Waratah’s development services manager, Cathie Smith, said.
“The whole crust of the night is it’s a family night.
“In this busy-paced life we live, it’s nice to have a night to totally switch off and focus on the true meaning of Christmas.”
The spectacular has been held for more than 35 years and Mrs Smith said there is an increase of attendees who now bring their own children and grandchildren.
The Australian Army Band Kapooka, who will be led by guest musical director Captain Gregory Peterson, will be joined by singers Anna Rouse, Josh McKellar, Matt Olsen, Carli-Jean Kulmar and Matthew Barron.
The event will start at 6.30pm with a children’s show before the main show.
The Lions Club will sell candle bags and song sheets and food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Proceeds will be donated to Kurrajong Waratah.
