FOR six weeks, William Farrer Hotel barmaid Lauren Duncombe has been hitting patrons with the “ugly stick” – and for good reason.
The bubbly 23-year-old has emerged as Wagga’s top earner in the UGLY (an acronym for Understanding Generous Likeable You) Bartender of the Year competition.
Ms Duncombe used a tin on the Farrer’s bar, and a dash of barmaid charm, to help raise $2000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
She was spurred to take part in the fundraiser after two friends were diagnosed with leukaemia.
“I did have a couple of close friends diagnosed and I just felt like I should do something,” Ms Duncombe said.
“It feels pretty good to be the top fundraiser in Wagga.”
