Laura Berben has never asked for anything extreme in life.
The 37-year-old Coolamon resident is known for her willingness to help others and ability as a show rider.
But there is something else that is defining Miss Berben now and her friends and family are ensuring she receives enough support to beat it.
Miss Berben had a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer two-and-a-half years ago.
In July this year, Miss Berben was diagnosed with a secondary cancer, which is affecting her lungs.
Miss Berben’s close friend, Wendy Hughes, has been by her side every step of the way and has joined seven others to lead a fundraising committee.
“When I was stuck, Laura stepped in,” she said.
“I’ve seen her do it for other people … that’s the type of person Laura is.
“If we can help out by paying medical bills, it’s someone who truly deserves it.”
Jack Egan at The Duke Hotel surprised Miss Berben with a new mobility scooter and is continuing his generosity by hosting the Auction for Laura on November 21.
Registrations for almost 50 items in the auction open at 3pm before the auction commences at 4pm.
A gold coin donation will be collected on arrival for the lucky door prize and Social Hand Grenade will play from 9pm.
Proceeds will go to Miss Berben’s treatment.
