A proposed landfill at Ardlethan won’t affect the future of tin mining in the region, the company behind the project has declared.
Australian Tin Resources (ATR), through its subsidiary Ardlethan Environmental Solutions, wants to build a landfill on the site of the town’s abandoned mine and is currently in the early stages of planning for that project.
The Ardlethan Tin Mine has long been abandoned, but other deposits remain nearby – some on land owned by ATR, along with another major deposit to the north currently being examined by another company, Thomson Resources.
We are looking at the tin ourselves right now, as we have for seven years, we've had a sample tested in Queensland and it looks quite promising.- Peter Francis
Should the landfill proceed however, it wouldn’t affect the future viability of mining those deposits, according to ATR director Peter Francis.
“We are looking at the tin ourselves right now, as we have for seven years, we've had a sample tested in Queensland and it looks quite promising,” Mr Francis said.
“It’s only laboratory testing right now but it looks good.”
