Down 4-1 with 15 minutes to go, the game was looking pretty dire for women’s premier league team AKW Jets on Tuesday night.
However, the team comprised of young teens dug deep to stage a comeback, finishing on par with Bar Up Bullbars 4-4.
AKW Jets’ Abbey Corbett was quick on her feet, gaining a lot of ground.
Fitness was a major advantage for the younger side, who were able to break through the pack and score runaway tries.
Winger Sophie Crouch ran two thirds of the field and scored her second try of the day, and veteran Cathy Salmon broke through at halfway, with Clare Vearing beside her, who received the ball and ran the last leg before scoring.
Denise Bailey was dominant for the Bar Up Bullbars, doing much of the legwork in the centre. Shannon Pike’s skill was also hard to match, faking to score their third try.
