A Wagga online TV station has found itself in the midst of a David-vs-Goliath battle, with US network Home Box Office threatening the regional station with a trademark challenge.
The story made national headlines yesterday after HBO noticed the similarity between WaggaWagga.tv’s slogan “It’s not TV. It’s dot TV” and its own “It’s not TV. It’s HBO”.
HBO has made its name with big budget productions including Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and Sex and the City, while WaggaWagga.tv’s shoestring budget shows include What’s Up Wagga, Unleash the Geek and The 5 o’clock Wave.
HBO has since dropped the challenge after realising the small local operation posed no threat to its business.
