WAGGA City have won the second round of the series by the skin of their teeth, edging ahead of Lake Albert with just four balls remaining on Saturday at McPherson Oval.
Lake Albert tallied 141, batting first and bowled out in the final over. A strong last over may have been all Lake Albert needed to win, but risky play from lower order batsman Scott Billington saw him caught out by Daniel Rafter.
After a slow start from top order batsmen, Lake Albert’s Jesse Hampton made a dent on the scoreboard with 35.
Wagga City’s efforts were hampered by 19 wides.
A lucrative partnership between Joshua Thompson and Jack Harper swung the momentum of the game in Wagga City’s favour.
Four of Wagga City’s batsmen retrieved the game, Thompson (46), Harper (38), Jon Nicoll (23) and Cane Graetz (20 not out).
The game marked the Cats’ second win and next Saturday Wagga City encounter another undefeated team, Saint Michaels.
