The town is set to thrive and the people to jive when Holbrook celebrates two major milestones this weekend.
If it weren't for a vocal township 100 years ago, the town would likely be named Marton. But the municipality of just 200 homes banded together to fight for a name they could identify with and, despite dire financial circumstances, they also raised funds for a new town hall.
Both the building and the name Holbrook have lasted the century and are cause enough for another round of celebrations on Saturday. This time people will return with nostalgia and might even learn something new about how the community they now live in came to be.
Holbrook Rotary Club treasurer Milt Golenberg led the charge to help organise movies, a fun run and dinner dance. “It would be lovely to see people utilise (the hall) more with functions and other events,” he said.
