Leeton’s Jacob Townsend will be forever thankful to Greater Western Sydney for giving him a start, but hopes a move to Richmond will reinvigorate his career.
The Tigers traded their fourth-round pick in exchange for Townsend and the Giants’ pick number 120.
The 22-year old midfielder, who was limited to just one senior game this year, was heartened by the encouragement he received during a meeting with the Tigers.
“My concern was going to be that they’ve got a good and established midfield already,” Townsend said.
“But they said they could see me playing there and that they need another bigger-bodied mid to help out Trent Cotchin.”
Townsend knows he has to earn his spot and will head to Melbourne in the next few weeks to get started.
