A RECENT storm that threatened the properties of nearby residents has prompted a Wagga councillor to call for a full report on stormwater run-off at Estella Rise to avoid it becoming a “council-bashing exercise”.
Wagga City Councillor Alan Brown said a sudden winter storm caused “very large, uncontrolled run-off from the stormwater retention basin at Estella Rise” on the old Narrandera Road.
He is now demanding a report into the matter to ensure it does not happen again.
“The developer needs to find a solution because we cannot allow water to be discharged on that land at that rate,” Cr Brown said.
“I’m calling for a solution suitable to landholders downstream of the current development.”
Cr Brown believed the issue would only worsen as the suburb continued to grow unless it was addressed immediately.
"It shouldn’t just be dumped on farmers’ paddocks.”

“Estella Rise has a long way to go,” he said.
“They need to put something there (to rectify the problem) before it grows. It shouldn’t just be dumped on farmers’ paddocks.
“They need to find a solution.”
Cr Brown’s calls follow a meeting between a local landholder affected by the run-off and senior council staff earlier this week.
