A “PERFECT storm” of conditions has forced authorities to declare the season’s first total fire ban for the weekend.
The ban, which started on Friday, covers the Northern Riverina including the council areas of Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Murrumbidgee and Narrandera.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) said predicted hot and windy weather had sparked the ban.
It urged property owners to remain vigilant and follow their bushfire survival plan.
No fires may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended during a total fire ban.
The RFS has reminded residents to keep informed by listening to local radio and monitoring www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.
