Kooringal Colts will forgo some of their lower grade cricket matches on Saturday to farewell former player Michael Connell.
Connell played with the club for four seasons up until the 2014 and following his sudden death his funeral will be in Cootamundra on Saturday.
A number of players will attend the service and the club decided not to play.
“The first round of cricket is big but it takes a back seat to something like this,” Kooringal Colts president Brenton Crawford said.
“A few of the boys were up at the dogs with him only three weeks ago and everything was fine so it was a big shock for the club.”
Connell, the principal at St Columba’s in Berrigan, was visiting family at the time of his death.
The Colts will fulfill their first and second grade but won’t play in the third and fourth grade competitions.
In third grade their Gold team was set to play their Red team while in fourth grade their Gold team was drawn to play their Blue team.
