MURRUMBIDGEE Turf Club (MTC) took out the outstanding achievement award at the NSW Country and Provincial Racing Awards in Sydney last Friday night.
MTC was recognised with the award for the annual Kurrajong Waratah Charity Raceday.
This year’s Kurrajong Waratah raceday made a record profit of $152,000, which went to the charity.
MTC chief executive Scott Sanbrook was pleased to take out the award.
“The club tries to do a lot of events to involve the community so it’s terrific to have Kurrajong Waratah recognised,” he said.
Over 5000 people, including 2300 children, attended this year’s race day, which Sanbrook said is a credit to Cathie Smith and her hard working raceday committee.
MTC was also a finalist in the Country TAB Race Club of the Year award but it went to Tamworth Jockey Club.
In other awards, Adaminaby Jockey Club was awarded Community Race Club of the Year.
