OVER the past 12 years the annual Wagga Picnic Races has raised over $350,000 for Riverina based organisation Country Hope.
This weekend the esteemed long weekend event is on again, and committee president Patrick Barrett is excited to again support the country based organisation that gives so much to rural families.
Country Hope assists children from the Riverina that suffer from life threatening illnesses.
The organisation recognises the stress placed on the entire family when a child is diagnosed with cancer or another illness.
"We know that all of the money we raise goes directly towards funding their annual camp, which provides a welcome reprieve to the kids and their siblings from the misfortune of being affected by such illnesses," Mr Barrett said.
"The Picnics have always drawn a great crowd and because of the warmer weather and school holidays, it's a great excuse for a punt and a party on the October Long Weekend."
"It's exciting to be able to continue the relationship with this fantastic cause."
Mr Barrett said the not for profit organisation provided programs for diagnosed children to reduce stress and maximise the benefits of medical care, as well as providing their siblings with similar activities.
