Wagga is anticipating taking a full-strength line up into the new Regional Bash competition.
The T20 competition has come into replace the SCG Cup and starts next weekend but Wagga’s first game isn’t until October 18.
The Sloggers will face Murrumbidgee Rangers at Robertson Oval and coach Owen Thompson expects to have all the city’s best players his at his disposal.
Thompson believes the move is a positive one for cricket in country areas.
“It should be exciting and there has been a fair bit of interest in it,” he said.
“It gives some young blokes some exposure to this sort of thing.
“Opportunities with the T20 stuff are going to come out of this in the future”
Wagga looks unlikely to secure any marquee players for the tournament however Thompson believes the city still has plenty of talent.
Cricket NSW development development manager Luke Olsen is looking to make a big day of the match.
A number of junior clinics and T20 Blast events will be held in the morning for the match and there will be crowd catching competitions.
The winner of the game will take on the winner of the clash between Border and Southern Riverina.
From there the teams progress to the finals stage at the SCG on December 6.
