POLICE have released a description of a man seen leaving the scene of a fire in Ashmont’s Blakemore Avenue.
Acting Wagga Crime Manager Phil Malligan said police had received reports of an young man, aged around 15, of Aboriginal appearance wearing a hoody and track suit pants leaving on a bicycle.
Detective Sergeant Malligan said the man living in the house left at 5.20pm on Wednesday to collect his children, with firefighters called to reports of black smoke at 5.36pm.
Five Wagga Fire and Rescue NSW crews attended including the aerial pumper, bringing the blaze under control by 6pm before it was fully extinguished by 7.30pm.
A firefighter was treated for a minor wrist injury at the scene.
Police have setup a crime scene and have forensic investigators combing through the site.
