FROM the pirouette, arabesque, and dip through to the pop-and-lock, the 2015 Riverina Dance Challenge will see hundreds of competitors battle it out to be the best in their style.
Mater Dei Primary School will come to life on Saturday, October 10 with the movement of dance for a full day of competition in Ballroom and Theatrical dance styles.
Proudly hosted by Mina’s Dance Academy, the event will bring together both local and national competitors of all ages and abilities.
In recent years Dancesport has grown in popularity thanks to TV shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars.
Wagga and the Riverina already has a proud reputation in this arena with 11 time undefeated National Dancesport Champion and Wagga Sporting Hall of Fame inductee Anna Longmore and current New Vogue Champion Monique Savill both hailing from Wagga.
The adjudicators panel during the day will be comprised of prestigious and well-respected dance identities.
These include Anna Longmoe and Meagan Alderton, past Australian Champions such as Brad Dawes, Larry Clarke and Pam Courts and So You Think You Can Dance finalist Kieran McMahon.
Monique and her partner Crawford Hill, who are currently second in Australia in Amateur Open New Vogue and among the top 12 in Amateur Open Ballroom, will also delight crowds with a performance.
The event is a way for dancers to challenge themselves ahead of the Australian’s in the best regional competition in NSW. It is also a chance for the community to see the bright, upcoming stars of tomorrow.
The event is open to the public who are welcome to watch all events, finals and presentations. Tickets are available at the door with pass outs available, so you can come and watch as you please.
The Riverina Dance Challenge is run in memory of Roger Savill, whose dedication as a high school teacher saw the encouragement of many youth to reach their potential through dance.
Roger’s wife and principal of Mina’s Dance Academy Mina Savill has been enriching the lives of dancers for 30 years offering tutelage in ballroom and Latin dancing, Dancesport, jazz, tap, contemporary and hip hop.
