WAGGA Bidgee Canoe Club members have exceeded expectations in Saturday’s Bidgee Marathon.
About 100 boats hit the water of Murrumbidgee River on Saturday where Manly-Warringah kayaker Kieran Babich took the honours in a time of one hour and 40 minutes for the 20 kilometre course.
Wagga kayakers performed strongly on their home turf and used local knowledge to produce some outstanding results.
Laurie Fitzpatrick was first of the locals home to finish in fourth place in division two.
Tim Doyle won division three.
Peter Murphy and Bruce Graham finished second in division four in their double.
Angela Farrell also had a great day and won division seven.
“That would be the best results the club has had for a number of years,” Fitzpatrick said.

The Wagga Bidgee Marathon, the ninth event in the 10-race Paddle NSW Marathon series, again proved a success.
“We had a great couple of days, Fitzpatrick said.
“It was great weather, great conditions and it proved to be a great weekend.”
Some of the visitors enjoyed a paddle from Oura to the Wagga Beach on Sunday.
