MEET Edna Burkinshaw.
Edna is a regular on the city’s garage sale scene, but the Wagga woman had an irregular tale to tell at the weekend as she hosted her own sale – in fact, her story was “eggs-traordinary” – and enough to scramble the brains of weekend shoppers.
She had just cracked open a giant egg, revealing another fully formed egg inside. Cue the shell-shock.
“Jeez, it was a big egg,” she said. “I can’t blame you if you don’t believe me – because I didn’t believe it myself. It’s absolutely unbelievable.”
The super-egg was hatched at The Rock in a family chicken coop and found by Edna’s husband, Peter. Exactly which iron-willed hen laid the egg is unknown.
But all yokes aside, the phenomenon occurs when a second egg is released by the ovary before the first has finished its journey.
