Wagga City’s sensation Sammmy Maxwell now has a gold medal to add to her impressive collection of trophies and awards.
Maxwell claimed gold at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa last week as part of the undefeated women’s rugby sevens team.
The girls conquered all on their way to the podium finish, triumphing 34-5 over Canada to bring home the gold medal.
“It’s awesome but still weird to think about and now come back to normal life,” Maxwell said.
It is no exaggeration that she was thrown straight back into normality.
Jet lag and fatigue could not stop Maxwell partying with her Wagga City teammates, who were beaten by Ag College in the Southern Inland plate grand final, hours after landing in Australia.
It was straight back to school for her last week before the HSC next month.
The game that stands out most to her was a win over Samoa, in which Sammy played the full 14 minutes and scored a try.
