WAGGA’S best junior cyclists endured a tough series of events at the National Road Championships in Shepparton, Victoria on the weekend.
Ed Wright, 13, crashed in the road race on Saturday, got back on the bike on Sunday for the criterium only to crash again.
Wright lost a lot of skin but sustained no major injuries.
Charlie Hamilton, 15, got a puncture in one race and his aggression on the bike was matched by another rider who pushed him onto the dirt in the criterium.
Myles Stewart, 15, sprinted a lap too early in the criterium.
“He wasn’t the only one, the finish line was incredibly loud and people were standing in front of the lap counter,” coach Cameron Oke said.
“A relatively unknown won the race and many of the big names missed out.”
Stewart finished 16th in the road race.
Kate Vickers, 14, finished 10th in the road race and 16th in the criterium.
