Wagga was presented with a Gold Chiko Roll in 2001 to mark the 50th anniversary of the snack’s humble beginnings – at the Wagga Show – and now Bendigo has audaciously claimed it also possesses one of the prestigious replicas as well.
There’s a simple solution to explain the reports of a second Golden Chiko Roll. According to both Museum of the Riverina manager Luke Grealy and Wagga mayor Rod Kendall, Bendigo’s replica is a fake.
“I think the mayor’s suggestion that it was probably silver and they spray painted it gold would be close to the truth,” Mr Grealy said.
