The Hawks led by as much as 34 points early in the third term before the Magpies returned fire with five straight goals to close the gap to one point at three-quarter time.
With the Magpies hit hard by injuries, the fit Hawks lifted and dominated the final quarter with Adams kicking the only three goals to lead his team to the premiership.
Adams, the co-coach, was proud of the way his team lifted with the game on the line.
“We knew it was going to be tough, you look at some of the quality they had in their side but credit to our boys in that last quarter, they just came out with a will to win,” Adams said.
“I feel a touch sorry for The Rock, they had injuries and basically ran out of a bench in the last quarter but I backed our guys to work and work and work to get back on top and I’m just stoked we did.
“We’ll go for back-to-back-to-back now.”
Wayne Rolla was named best-on-ground for the Hawks, while Mark Flack was a standout for TRYC.
