In the Creed Shield school boys competition Kooringal High School had an unlikely victory over The Riverina Anglican College winning 2-1 on Monday.
Kooringal started with just 10 players on the field because the game clashed with Year 12 captaincy interviews, but they kept TRAC scoreless for 15 minutes until the rest of the team arrived.
In the second half Kooringal’s Alex Mulrooney Castellano and Brady Sim scored, securing the game.
Kooringal coach Leanne Tregea says it’s a promising start but it’s too soon to tell whether they can win the shield; Wednesday night’s grudge match will provide a better indication.
“Wagga High beat us 5-0 earlier in the year, we’ve improved since then,” she said.
In another close match Kildare Catholic College defeated Wagga Christian College 2-0.
Meantime in Mater Dei’s comprehensive 10-1 victory over Mount Austin Isaac Tancredi top scored with four goals.
