WAGGA junior cyclists Kate Vickers and Ed Wright have excelled over a series of three races and have been selected for the NSW road state team.
State teams will race in the Junior National Road Championships in Shepparton in September.
Wright, 13, the youngest member of the under 15s squad, fell ill at the most recent meet and was thankful to be spotted earlier on. “It was touch and go [at Tamworth] but because he won the Country Championships ... we were pretty confident he had earned his spot,” Ed’s dad Paul said.
Selection has given Vickers, 14, a morale boost. “Knowing I didn't do a lot of training compared to the other girls ... helped me believe I can do a little bit more and I could be so much better,” she said.
