We had a fairly quiet night on our line but were standing to pretty near all the time. There are only the two of us on the phone so we do four hours on and the next four doing orderly so we get no rest or sleep for the forty eight hours. We were relieved at 0030 by the Fourth Bn. and came straight out. While I was in the trenches I wrote a letter to Ess and Elsie but don’t know whether it will ever get away. I got a light pair of boots out of Berts pack when I came out and it is no end of a relief.
