THE rich heritage of Wagga’s Greek community will be showcased at a colourful festival this weekend.
The Wagga Paniyiri Greek Festival marks the golden anniversary of the community’s spiritual heart – the Greek Orthodox Church in Tompson Street.
A feast of Greek food, traditional dance, raffles and kids’ activities will be on offer on Sunday from midday in the church grounds, with all Wagga residents invited to attend.
“This is a very holy day for us,” Wagga Greek community president Michael Georgiou said. “But it will also be a day of celebration.”
Mr Georgiou said guests would be coming from Sydney and Canberra.
A sumptuous Greek buffet lunch will be on offer, at a cost of $20 per person. A church service will commence at 8am.
