HENWOOD Park defeated Lake Albert 9-5 in a thrilling game of soccer on Tuesday night.
After each goal in the first half the Hawks left themselves open to Lake Albert’s strong counter attack.
Lake Albert scored off a controversial penalty kick; Hawks coach Kyle Doswell believes the infringement happened outside of the box.
In another unlucky turn of events, Hawks defender Pat Ireland slipped over and Lake Albert’s striker ran through to score.
The score at half time was 5-4, far too close for comfort.
“We decided to go forward recklessly, we were trying to force the ball through gaps that weren’t there, that’s not our game plan,” he said.
Henwood Park moved above Cootamundra, now third on the ladder.
“I don’t want to drop another game until finals,” Doswell said.
His standout players were striker Jake Ploenges who scored five goals, Chris Oczkowski who held the midfield, Pat Ireland, strong in defence.
