The Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch (BEBL) to give greater awareness to prostate cancer is on again in Wagga on Friday, September 4.
Men are encouraged to get a table together, have a great afternoon out and help raise money for prostate cancer research, a disease that is now the most common form of cancer among men in Australia.
Men attended last year's inaugural lunch from throughout the Riverina with a Gundagai table led by Glenn Moore taking out the $3000 cash table raffle.
Moore said: “It was a great event with excellent speakers and entertainment and we learnt a lot from Dr John Tickell about prostate cancer”.
This year alone at least 20,000 men in Australia will be diagnosed with the disease and more than 3300 will lose their battle with it.
The theme for this year's lunch is for men to have two simple early tests with their GP that can indicate prostate cancer _ a PSA blood test and digital rectal examination.
This year the BEBL committee is bringing two guest speakers, Olympic gold medal ice skater Steven Brabury, and Dr Peter Larkins, one of the country's leading sports medicine physicians and speakers on men's health.
Bradbury was the first Winter Olympic gold medallist from Australia and the Southern Hemisphere, world champion in 1991 and a four-times Olympian.
He will bring a piece of his memorabilia for auction during the lunch. Bradbury appears at many of the BEBL lunches held annually in Victoria and NSW.
Larkins has a great sports background. He is currently a member of the 3AW and Channel 7 AFL broadcast teams, was captain of the national track and field team in 1983 and now also speaks on all aspects of healthy living.
The lunch kicks off at noon with snacks then lunch and drinks are included throughout the afternoon.
Tables of 10 and 12 are available at $100 pp (all inclusive); individual tickets at $110.
