Supporting local charities has never been more important.
As reported in today’s The Daily Advertiser, local organisations are struggling to cope with increased demand from families needing help.
The unusually cold winter chill is taking its toll on the stocks of blankets, bedding and warm clothing held and distributed by these organisations.
Increased electricity and gas charges have added to the burden for many people in the region, the fixed component of their bills meaning that it is difficult to avoid hefty costs even if they are careful with the use of their heating appliances.
Ultimately, this means many choose to turn their heating down or off to avoid the bill shock.
The best we can do as a community to to make sure our family, friends and neighbours are being cared for appropriately.
Just as importantly, keep donating to the local charities which are well placed to support those in need.
