North Wagga has lost one of its most experienced Aussie Rules players for the season.
Jackson Oehm, 28, broke his leg in the third quarter last Saturday when North Wagga played Coleambally.
“It will definitely be a season-ending injury, he was in good form which makes it even worse,” co-coach Chad Hamblin said.
“He’d played a lot of footy, he had a lot of experience on the wing which he used quite well.
“He was a vital part of our side so he’ll be sorely missed.”
The diagnosis came as a shock to Hamblin and the team, who initially thought Oehm had damaged a ligament in his ankle.
North Wagga signed Oehm in November 2014 in a bid to boost the team’s experience.
Hamblin believes North Wagga should be able to compensate for the loss.
“We’ve got pretty good depth, so we’re pretty lucky in that sense,” Hamblin said.
“We had Charles Shaw come up and play a really good game against Cole, hopefully we can cover him [Oehm].”
The Saints have been strong in recent weeks building towards a crucial clash against undefeated East Wagga-Kooringal on Saturday.
