MR SOMMERVILLE moved one step closer to taking out the Wagga Stayers Series after taking out his third win in the series at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Monday.
In defeating stablemate Aribaa in the Allens Coaches Benchmark 64 Hcp (2500m), Mr Sommerville went one step closer to earning trainer Trevor Sutherland and his large group of owners an extra $8000 by taking out the series.
The five-year-old leads Tim Donnelly’s Traded by 21 points with two legs of the series remaining.
Sutherland has already set the gelding for the Riverina Cup Prelude (2500m) on July 10, which offers double points, but is unlikely to head to NSW’s longest race The Riverina Cup.
“He'll definitely go to the next one for sure, and if he has enough points so they can’t catch him we’ll make up our minds then,” Sutherland said.
“I don’t think he’ll go to the 3800m (Riverina Cup), he’ll go the paddock and get ready for the Albury and Wagga cups next year.”
