RIVERINA roads are set to benefit from more government investment as a result of the reindexation of the fuel excise.
The electorate’s roads will now receive $77 million in Roads to Recovery funding over the five years to July 2019. Wagga City Council will receive the largest slice over that period with a $13.15 million allocation.
“I appreciate people don’t like petrol prices increasing with inflation, but we’ve got to pay for new roads,” member for Riverina Michael McCormack said.
“Every single dollar of excise that comes from the bill passed last week associated with the inflationary impact on excise, every single dollar will go towards roads funding. I think that’s an important initiative.”
Individual councils will be responsible for deciding which roads benefit from the federal government’s investment.
