IT WAS a must win game for Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong but it did not stop the Lions from starting key pair James Lawton and Nathan McPherson on the interchange bench on Saturday.
The Lions enjoyed a 49-point win over Narrandera at Ganmain Sportsground but seeing Lawton and McPherson start on the bench was one of the more unusual aspects of the day.
GGGM coach Jayden Kotzur revaled both started on the bench for a “couple of minor things” but responded in the best possible fashion.
“They started on the bench but didn’t let it worry them and they both led the way, right from the warm up,” Kotzur said.
Lawton played the majority of the game in the ruck but swapped forward and kicked six goals.
