THE southern end of Baylis Street is set to be the scene of a Mexican stand-off, with popular chain Guzman y Gomez set to open directly across the road from Zambrero.
Wagga’s Guzman y Gomez restaurant will open next Thursday and will give away a free burrito or burrito bowl to anyone stopping in on its opening day between 11am and 8pm.
The chain has proven popular in major cities and is now expanding its footprint into regional areas.
Its Wagga store is one of a number of new restaurants to open in the city in recent months.
Guzman y Gomez serves a range of Mexican dishes, from burritos to churros.
Founder Steven Marks estimates it will be pumping out burritos every five to eight seconds on its opening day in Wagga.
