MINKARA Yarmi continued his love affair with his home track with a fighting victory at Wagga Showground on Sunday evening.
Forest Hill trainer John Hartley started off the meeting in perfect style as he claimed the feature on the card, the Classicbet Stakes (400m) with Minkara Yarmi ($5.80).
The three-year-old dog was under siege leading into the straight as Pete’s Desire and Magpie Hawk loomed on the outside and challenged strongly.
But Minkara Yarmi found plenty and kicked strongly along the inside to win by about a metre.
The win came on the back up after the son of Premier Fantasy finished fourth at Wagga’s meeting on Friday.
The $700 first prize cheque also put Minkara Yarmi desperately close to the $10,000 mark in career earnings.
It also continued his love affair with the Wagga track.
All 10 of Minkara Yarmi’s career victories have come at the Wagga track.
Short-priced favourite Ludwig was slow away from the eight box and copped an early check only to recover and run on strongly for fourth place.
Meantime, Illabo trainer Raymond Sims unveiled a smart dog when Tyrone’s Pride ($2.00) won on debut at Wagga.
Tyrone’s Pride was on debut in the Spring Gun Maiden (320m) and made the most of box one to score.
