POPULAR bookmaker Garry Burns lost his battle with cancer on Friday morning, but his horses have made a bittersweet tribute.
In the final hours of his life Burns watched on as Amanda Von won at Penrith before Shes A Runa won at Melton and Classiemahon scored at Wagga following his death.
All drivers in Classiemahon’s race wore black armbands on Saturday night.
A bookmaker for more than three decades, Burns was still involved with the Wagga Harness Racing Club in the late stages of his illness.
Burns is survived by wife Carole and children Paul and Amanda.
Carole described the wins as a going away send off for him.
His funeral will be held at St Michaels Cathedral on Wednesday at 1.45pm.
